We thank you for your interest in the breed. We hope that this website will help you learn more about our breed and that you will come back and visit or contact some of our breeders.

Message from the APA President:
Spring is just around the corner as you read this – something I’m sure that gets everyone excited. I look forward to the grass growing and all of the new little calves running and bucking. As we look at our herds, now is the time to work on the promises we made to each other and ourselves to start moving the breed into the next chapter. We have a great group of breeders around the country and the cattle are getting better and better every year. Now we have to start spreading the cattle out and spreading the word to make the breed an integral part of the beef industry.
Thanks to everyone who returned their surveys. Although I was disappointed in the amount of surveys returned, I am pleased to hear from so many of you who took the time to write out some suggestions for the association, the web page and the Journal. Trust that your comments have been taken to heart and are being discussed by your Board.
Congratulations to the fine folks at Diamond T Cattle Co. for kicking off the year with a successful sale. We can only hope that they have set the bar for registered cattle prices for all of us this year.
We are looking forward to all the other Pinzgauer events this year and encourage everyone to attend one near you. We hope to see a big crowd at the National Event hosted by the NWPA in Puyallup, WA this fall. And…please remember to support the APA and your regional association by paying your dues this year and registering your cattle.

Message from the APA Treasurer
Here is your mid-year report: December fiscal reports are in, and we need to be “on watch” for the remaining 6 months through June.
Revenues total $11,413, that’s down $1,715 year to year, and ($ 2,938) below our mid-year plan. Expenses totaled $14,379, which is only slightly over plan by $46, and up $1,240 year to year. Thus, our current bottom line is ($ 2,967). This is not where I would recommend we should be with 6 months to go.
At the fall directors meeting in Milwaukee, we approved a membership survey, and thank you for your responses. This was a non-budgeted expense of $993, and is a significant contributor of our ‘over plan’ position on spending. I recently processed some material (budgeted) expenses for the 2007 National meeting and show, and regional advertising (matching funds) expenses, which I predict will widen our gap between revenue and expense by the third quarter closing. These are some of the reasons I believe we should be “on watch.”
Registrations through December were 278, down 4% (290) from a year ago. Transfers during the same period were 391, up 35% (290). No cause for alarm with those results. However, membership fees are concerning, currently booking only $357, down $1,508 year to year, and $2,893 below membership plan at mid year. These three revenue channels represent 95% of the APA’s income. Please notice the membership fee shortfall represents 98% of our mid-year deficit. In other words, if we were at plan on our membership fees, the APA would only be off our financial expectations by 2% ($ 75), no need for concern. As your treasurer, I ask for your immediate attention to your membership status. Please renew your membership such that you may continue to receive the benefits of said membership, while supporting the life blood of the Association. And to those Lifetime Members, please give extra consideration, this year in particular, to submitting the (voluntary) Lifetime User Fee.
In my last report I challenged each breeder to register just 2 more calves this year than last. For those of you already ahead of your last year’s run rate, thank you, and I am raising the challenge to 2 + 2 more. To all breeders; I have said this before, please consider registering that one (or 2) extra bull calf. After all, maybe you will decide not to band him in the end. On that subject, I might suggest you invest in a heavy duty bander. We’ve used ours here now for about three years, and like it a lot. It allows us to leave them intact to an older age. We get the benefits of better performance of the intact male calf, and enables us to defer that ‘final’ decision to 6 or 7 months of age.
Thank
You for your attention to this call to action. Any concerns or ideas,
please give me a holler,
Jeff Cole
